Beating Your Stats – Update for February

When compared to my stats for the end of January posted last month, we are seeing some growth here at RCB but only in returning visitors.  Page loads are down as well as Unique visitors and First Time Visitors.  Returning visitors are up.  I like the returning visitors stat because it suggests that more of the visitors are converted to returning ones.  This suggests to me that I am providing some valuable content but that my marketing (i.e. visiting and commenting at other blogs) may have lagged from my initial activity in January.  I am not too focused on putting in the consistent time in that area which may be the reason for a decline. Last month I set a cocky and ambitious goal to double my January stats.  I didn’t come close.  I failed to reach my goal.  I am not disheartened.  I just didn’t do what I needed to make my goal happen.  Maybe I should be a little more conservative for next month.  My goal is to increase each stat by 50% which would mean 190 page loads and 17 returning visitors on average for March.

And now for the posts

My most popular posts are:

51 views for my 1959 Chevy Convertible, down from 70 last month but still the champion

26 views for my 1950 Chevy Pickup Truck up from 22 last month

25 views for taking up the Pre-Writing Challenge – new post only one day old

23 views for the Plan by the Week System by Steve Scott – only 5 days old

These are the posts for the month of February.  It seems to me that these stats suggest that I am creating posts that attract readers. The nostalgia posts still attract viewers but seem not to relate to other content.  I am adjusting the mix for March to include more variety to better gauge the topics where I should focus.  Any comments or observations are certainly welcome.

    Ralph,

Those stats look very good considering how young this site is. 🙂

For me, I try and increase my metrics month after month, those that are under my control. It’s been going well so far but as always there is room for improvement.

    Jason,
Thanks for the encouraging words. I feel like I just got started last month even though the blog is over one year old.

Ralpha…congrats on growing your site. Especially having more repeat visitors. I know I’m one of them 🙂

To be honest you’re way ahead of me. I’m averaging an insane total of 80 visitors a day. Not exactly burning up the blogsphere. I guess we have to keep plugging away…

      Steve,
It is nice to get the page views but it is those repeat visitors that I really care about. It is the plugging away for sure but the commenting on other sites has been the source of real growth for me.
