50′s Nostalgia Fat’s Domino

Blue Monday was on of Fat’s Domino’s early hits and a staple at the sock hops in the gym after football games during the 50’s.

In the 50’s teenagers were oblivious to race where their music was concerned. Fat’s Domino had string of hits through the 50’s and into the early 60’s. His mellow. unforgettable voice and strong R and B beat made his songs distinctive and popular like Blue Monday. Which was one of the songs in the movie, The Girl Can’t Help It, an early celebration of rock and roll music.

Most of his hits were with Imperial Records and when they became part of a bigger label, Fats left and finally settled with ABC Paramount which forced him to change to a recording studio in Memphis and change his support team. He never hit he same stride again although it isn’t clear whether it was the changes in his team or the new wave of British groups that washed over the US in the 60’s.

Fat’s was born in New Orleans and still lives there. He was thought to be dead after Hurricane Katrina but later was found in a shelter after being rescued by the Coast Guard. He has restored his home and office and continues to be a part of the New Orleans ward where he lives and the entertainment scene,
