A Gondola Ride
It was nearing the end of our trip that we engaged a Gondolier to show us Venice from canal level. We left from San Toma on the Grande Canal (actually the gondola was parked just feet away on a side canal. We then entered the Grand Canal for a short time and then into the side canals for about an hour before returning to the Grand Canal and San Toma.
There is nothing quite like a gondola ride. There is no traffic to speak of, no sounds other than the OY from the gondolier and his comments on the buildings as they pass.
