Looking back at some of the most popular posts at RCB, I found a series that explored the power of asking for what you want. Asking is hard for me. It seems weak and needy and I am reluctant to reveal either of those qualities because I think that people will like me less. When I am asked for help however, I don’t judge but try to help as best I can. There is something perverse stopping me from asking for help. I have to force myself to be open about my needs and my limits. When I don’t ask for help then I am on my journey alone and limited to my own resources. Looking back, I have wasted time and missed opportunities because I didn’t ask. In retirement I can’t afford to waste anything.
I hope that you don’t have my limitation and are open and transparent about asking for what you want and need. The rewards are immense. If you have examples to share that can encourage anybody who is reluctant, please share them.
